How HIMYM Should Have Ended
Found this on fanfiction.net and I def agree…(https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10237491/1/):
HIMYM ALTERNATE ENDING
(Follows scene of mother sick in hospital bed).
Cut to a graveyard (2024). Freshly dug dirt indicates a new grave. Lily holds Luke (age 7), Barney has his hand on Penny’s (age 9) shoulder. Ted leans heavily on Marshall, and Robin stands next to them looking uncomfortable. He’s crying and grief is evident on everyone else’s faces.
Ted: I never thought she’d actually go.
Lily: We know. We’re here for you.
Robin: We’re all here for you.
Cut to: a scene of Marshall, Lily, their three children, Barney, his daughter, Ted, Luke, and Penny eating Thanksgiving dinner a few years later at Ted’s. Everyone smiling and laughing.
Cut to: a scene of Penny at 13 sitting on the couch looking uncomfortable and Ted opening the front door to Robin standing there holding a box of tampons.
Ted (voiceover): And they all were.
Cut to: Ted (2030) telling kids the story.
Ted: And that’s how I met your mother.
Penny: Why did you waste our time telling us this? It doesn’t matter. She’s still dead. We’ve still had to live six years without her.
Ted: But don’t you see? Although I struggled for years to find her, the ten years we had together were the best of my life and worth the struggle and heartbreak.
Luke: I miss her.
Penny: Me too.
Robin: (from out of shot) She was a great women.
Cut to left of couch. Robin sits in a chair with Ellie (10) asleep in her lap. Barney sits at her feet, their hands are intertwined. Marshall and Lily sit in a chair next to them smiling.
Robin: Seeing what Ted and your mom had helped me grow up and get over my fears.
Barney: Life’s too short not to be with the person you’re meant for. (He smiles at Robin)
Penny smiles and puts her head on Luke’s shoulder.
Penny: She was a great woman.
Lily: The best.
Ted: She was the love of my life. You two don’t know how glad I am I met your mother.
The gang comes around Ted once more and his kids join them. He stares off in the distance smiling to himself and it fades to black.
Cut to: scene where Ted and Tracy meet under the yellow umbrella.
